Carl Kline’s A Part Of The Noise is set in 1959 around Franz, dealer Sidney Janis, and the Cedar Tavern crowd. Janis wants the black-and-white paintings that are selling. Franz wants the new color abstractions in the show. A young critic, a screening of Pull My Daisy, and the usual downtown collisions follow. Directed by Joe John Battista. About two hours with intermission. The play is an homage to the painters, writers, and musicians of that block of history, and an argument about art versus commerce that does not pretend the audience is innocent. October 8–25, 2026 in TNC’s Johnson Theater, 155 First Avenue. Thursday–Saturday 20:00, Sunday 15:00. $20 / $15 students and seniors.
